8 Hour Revision Day
Hey,
It's me, Caitlin.
It's currently the Easter Holiday's here in the UK, which means we get 2 weeks off from school. The wisest option to use these next couple of weeks is for relaxation time (obviously, that's why we have a break from school), but also for the important years - you want to use this time to start, if you haven't already, cracking down with your revision. Working on this opinion, I decided to set myself the challenge of doing an 8 hour day of revision.
I commenced my revision at 9am and went through Chapter 13 in my Mathematics Textbook, and proceeded to work for an hour on that. I believe it was a smart idea to put Mathematics first, because it is good to have a fresh brain, that hasn't been strained already, when attempting A-Level Mathematics problems. I re-read through the chapter, and then began working my way through the mixed questions at the end. After completing them all, I marked them and wrote on a post-it note which questions I got wrong and would need to re-do.
Putting my Mathematics textbook aside, I brought out my English Literature folder and found my list of what A Streetcar Named Desire revision notes I had left to make. I wrote down about three topics to work my way through and began at 10am for another hour. I made revision cards for the smaller topics and mind maps for the more denser topics. Once finishing the hardcore revision side of it, I added colour and put them into my folder.
At this point you might be thinking, 2 hours in, are you not going to take a break, and believe me I wanted to. However, I didn't and opened my laptop to start working on my EPQ presentation. Now for those of you who don't know what an EPQ is, it stands for Extended Project Qualification and gives me the equivalent of an AS Level grade (half an A-Level). It is pretty much just a project that gives you the skills you need when writing a dissertation at university, so is looked upon by many British Universities highly. This took me an hour or so as I needed to make the presentation and then start writing up the handout of what I would present.
Moving on to hour 4, at 12pm, I started my Psychology revision cards for the module Biopsychology, which took me just over an hour. I worked on Plasticity and Functional recovery in the Brain and Biological Rhythms. I again used colour to make them more appealing, so I highlighted the key terms, underlined the headings and put an orange sticker in the corner so I knew that it was Biopsychology.
I finally took a two hour break for Lunch and to run some errands for my mum. I picked up some parcels and posted some letters.
Upon returning home, I went straight into another hour session of revision. I again pulled out my English Literature folder and found a similar list but for Poetry. At my sixth form, we are doing an anthology called Poems of the Decade, so I took my book and began to find the key quotes and analysis for 4 poems. I then put these into mini mind maps, and added colour.
At 4pm I went back to my Psychology revision cards for Biopsychology, and finished them within the hour session. I started on The Nervous System, and then moved onto Neurons and Synaptic Transmission, where I, in my opinion, had drawn a pretty amazing neuron. Again making sure to add colour and the orange sticker in the corner.
Deciding to give Mathematics another go, I found my Chapter 13 post-it note and re-attempted the questions I needed to, and crossed off the ones I got right. I then opened my textbook to Chapter 14 and re-read through those pages, and then proceeding to work on the mixed questions at the end of the chapter, following the same method as before. I worked from 5pm till 6pm doing this.
At the end of my revision day, I read The Handmaid's Tale for an hour and a half, making notes in the margin and trying to finish the book because it was set for homework.
Overall, I believe that the day went pretty well, and I am proud of what I accomplished. I actually filmed the day, and edited it, as you see those revision YouTubers doing. The main reason behind this was so I could watch it back when feeling un-motivated, but also because I love editing and haven't had the opportunity to do so since my Media GCSE coursework. I hope this somehow gives you motivation, or if not, you probably just think that I'm crazy for doing 8 hours of revision. Whatever you think, I hope you enjoyed reading this post.
